Important Signed Photographs from a California Family Collection

Swann Auction Galleries Sale #2739: This remarkable selection of photographs and graphic documents includes several important American autographs, among them a large photograph by George Prince showing Theodore Roosevelt and the nine members of his 1907 cabinet—signed by each, and an attractive carte-de-visite showing a bust portrait by Matthew Brady of General William Tecumseh Sherman signed by him on Brady’s original mount in astonishingly good condition. Also in the collection are Martin Luther King, Jr., who signed and inscribed a striking portrait of himself in profile, and Babe Ruth, who signed and inscribed a full-length portrait of himself after an explosive swing of his bat. Some of the most prominent figures from America and elsewhere have left their mark on the remaining photographs in the collection, including scientists and inventors, business leaders, U.S. Supreme Court members, as well as writers and explorers.
